In the first quarter of 2022, Tesla delivered a record 310,048 vehicles, despite CEO Elon Musk calling it a “particularly difficult quarter.” CNBC reports that Tesla has been struggling due to global supply chain issues and the closure of its manufacturing plant in the city of Shanghai, because of the Covid-19 epidemic.
In its press release, Tesla said it delivered 295,324 Model 3 and Y vehicles, and 14,724 Model S and X vehicles. The number of vehicles delivered in Q1/2022 increased slightly compared to the previous quarter (308,600 vehicles). Compared to the same period last year, the growth is 68%. Tesla also said it shipped 305,407 new vehicles this quarter.
On his Twitter page, CEO Elon Musk acknowledged this was a particularly difficult quarter, due to supply chain disruptions and China’s zero Covid policy. However, the Tesla team and key suppliers did a great job to help overcome these difficulties.
Last month, Tesla had to close its manufacturing plant in the city of Shanghai, due to a spike in the number of Covid-19 cases. Last week, Tesla continued to have to close the factory, due to the policy of the city of Shanghai. The Shanghai factory is Tesla’s largest production plant, so it greatly affects the output of vehicles.
Recently, Tesla also opened its first production plant in Europe, in the city of Berlin, Germany.
