To celebrate Earth Day, the Hi-Impact L&D team attached the Insta360 ONE X2 camera to a weather balloon and sent it up into the sky, capturing the stunning views of the Earth from over 24 km.
Hi-Impact L&D says it chose to mount the ONE X2 camera in a balloon because the camera has been proven capable of operating in extreme temperatures. For example, this particular flight brought the camera to an altitude of 24,650 meters. At that altitude, the temperature plummets to -45 degrees Celsius.

The launch process had many challenges with the weather, on the day of the balloon launch, the wind was very strong, the temperature was cold and there was a lot of rain. The camera has survived admirably harsh conditions, but unfortunately the image quality is degraded due to rain on the lens.
The camera recorded nearly two hours as the balloon ascended, survived the extreme temperatures, and was recovered as it fell back to Earth via a GPS system.
