For a long time, Sony’s PlayStayion 4 system has been jailbroken, but it can only be done on devices with firmware 7.55. However, recently, hackers were able to jailbreak PS4s with firmware higher than 9.00, the current firmware version of PS4 is 9.03. The jailbreak method is called “pOOBs4” and it exploits a vulnerability in the PS4’s kernel.
Here is a video of PS4 running unofficial software thanks to the jailbreak:
Although it is possible to jailbreak PS4 from firmware 9.00 or lower, the current firmware of PS4 is 9.03 and PS4 users tend to update the firmware regularly, so not everyone can take advantage of this vulnerability to jailbreak the device.
It’s worth noting that this jailbreak should theoretically also work on PS5, according to one of the people who developed the jailbreak. However, the version for PS5 still has no release date because the main developer still… no PS5 yet.
It seems that the fact that the PS5 is always out of stock also helps it last longer before being jailbroken.
