According to CNN, Apple will delay bringing employees back to the office until a date “still has not been determined”. Notably, all company employees and at its retail stores will receive $1,000 to purchase equipment for working from home.
According to multiple sources, the above policy was shared with Apple employees in an email from CEO Tim Cook on Wednesday. Apple has also now confirmed the details of this email to CNN Business.
The Silicon Valley giant’s “generous” move towards employees comes amid a growing number of Covid-19 cases and concerns about the spread of the Omicron variant. Earlier this week, Apple reinstated the mask rule at all of its US stores and reportedly closed some of them as well because of a spike in the number of Covid-19 cases.
Several companies including Google, Lyft, Uber and Amazon have also pushed back office reopening dates several times as uncertainty about the pandemic continues.
Early in the pandemic, several companies including Google and Facebook gave their employees $1,000 to help with the cost of working from home.
