Samsung’s Galaxy A51 comes in 4G and 5G variants.

Samsung

Samsung introduced six new phones to its popular Galaxy A series on Wednesday, including two 5G phones that the South Korean phone-maker will release in the summer.  Starting tomorrow however, Samsung says it’s releasing two of the four phones from the  Galaxy A line’s 2020 4G range. From Thursday, the base Galaxy A01 phone will be available in the US for $110 (£88, AU$177) along with the A51 LTE phone, which costs $400 (£322, AU$645) and is the most expensive phone in this year’s lineup of Galaxy A 4G phones. Based on the specs sheet, the two phones don’t have much in common other than the option to expand your storage by 512GB and the presence of headphone jacks, which is something that appears in all six of the 2020 Galaxy A phones.

The Galaxy A01 is the smallest and cheapest of the new phones. It features a 5.7-inch HD display, offers 16GB in storage, 2GB RAM, and has a dual-camera setup led by a 13-megapixel rear camera, and a 3,000-mAh battery. Meanwhile, the LTE version of the Galaxy A51 has a larger 6.5-inch HD display, 128 GB storage, more RAM (4GB), and sports a quad-camera setup led by a large 48-megapixel sensor, and a 4,000-mAh battery. It also has a more modern design and a less noticeable notch, compared to the A01.

In between those two phones, you have the Galaxy A11 for $180 and the Galaxy A21 selling for $250, which will be released in the summer. Both these phones feature 4,000-mAh batteries and are similar in size and memory. The main differences are in their camera setup. Where the A11 has a tri-camera module on the rear led by a 13-megapixel wide camera along, the A21 has four cameras on the rear with a 16-megapixel main sensor.

Galaxy A series gets more 5G phones

Although 2019’s Galaxy A90 was first 5G phone in the A Series, the 2020 handsets are still among the first few Galaxy A phones to have 5G capabilities. The A71 5G phone is the largest, most powerful, and you guessed it, most expensive member of the Galaxy A family after the A90. It’ll set you back $600 when it goes on sale in the summer, but it comes with a a 6.7-inch FHD+Super AMOLED Plus Infinity-O display, 25-watt fast charging support, and a quad-camera module on the phone’s rear led by a massive 64-megapixel main snapper.

As noted earlier, the Galaxy A51 also comes with a 5G capable variant, which has a larger battery compared to its 4G sibling and comes with 6GB RAM instead of 4. Compared with the A71 5G, It’s $100 cheaper at $499 and sports a slightly smaller 6.5-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-O display, and 15-watt fast charging support. It too comes with a quad-camera setup on the left side of the phone’s rear lead by a 48-megapixel main lens. Both 5G phones have massive 4-500-mAh batteries and on-screen optical fingerprint sensors. They also come with 128 GB of internal storage, 6GB of RAM, and microSD slots, allowing you add up to TB of memory.

The Galaxy A51 5G differs from last year’s Galaxy A50 in one key department: 5G. And it’s mostly for that reason, the Galaxy A50 is 30 percent cheaper ($350 vs 500) than its successor. The Galaxy A50 was launched in 2019 and at $350, £309 or AU$500, the A50 is one of the cheapest Galaxy options from last year. It features a 6.4-inch display, an in-screen fingerprint reader and a headphone jack.
