If the world is going to break out of its miserable choice between economic lockdowns and the ravages of coronavirus, the best bet is science. A better understanding of the bug and its biology will pave the way for treatments, vaccines and more efficient mitigation methods. So it’s not a good sign that the West’s premier journal of natural science appears to be indulging in political obsessions and language control at the expense of critical discovery.
