SHANGHAI — China’s Haier Group wants to partner with Japanese companies that can provide technology for the white goods maker’s water heater segment, and this outreach effort could extend to other operations.
Haier lists six areas in which it seeks designs, including water temperature controllers and shower water softening technology that costs no more than 300 yuan ($44).
The Chinese appliance company has asked Osaka Prefecture’s Shanghai office and the Yokohama Industrial Development Corp., or IDEC, to spread the word.
Haier may eventually hold similar open calls for five or six business units, IDEC Yokohama says.
The company’s close ties to Osaka stem from its acquisition of Japan-based Sanyo Electric’s white goods business in 2012. A trade show also is planned in the eastern Chinese city of Qingdao, where Haier is based.
