Steam Adds Support for the Switch Pro Controller | News & Opinion

Nintendo’s excellent Switch gamepad now works with all your Steam games.

Steam Switch Pro Controller Setup

We’ve known since March last year that the Switch Pro Controller will work with a PC. It wasn’t detected by USB, but a Bluetooth connection worked fine. Now, support for Nintendo’s controller on PC is official thanks to Valve.

An announcement was made yesterday on the Steam community forums confirming that official support had been added for the Switch Pro Controller. It means as well as being the perfect gamepad for playing a docked Switch, it can now be used to play your entire Steam library of games.

Steam Switch Pro Controller Setup

In order for the Pro Controller to work with Steam, you need to opt in to the Steam Beta Client. That allows you to experience a range of the latest features before they get rolled out to the standard Steam Client everyone uses. After a Steam restart, navigate to the Controller Settings page and check “Switch Pro Configuration Support.”

As well as enabling support for the Pro Controller, it’s possible to select “Use Nintendo Button Layout” to swap the A/B and X/Y buttons if you wish. Steam also allows you to setup and store button configurations on a per game basis for the controller, just like you can with the Steam Controller or an Xbox pad.

Once the controller option has been enabled you need to connect and register your Pro Controller when prompted. Then calibrate it to ensure the gyro works properly. You are then all set to play with settings before launching a game to play.
