Its’ $199.99 and available from September 15, but doesn’t include a copy of Metroid: Samus Returns.
Nintendo is once again making it even more difficult to pick which handheld in the 3DS family to buy. We’ve only just had the option of a New 2DS XL, but next month there will also be a very collectible Metroid-themed New Nintendo 3DS XL hitting store shelves.
In case you hadn’t guessed, this apparently very limited edition New 3DS XL is being offered to compliment the launch of Metroid: Samus Returns. Both the Samus Edition New Nintendo 3DS XL and the game release on September 15. However, the 3DS costs $199.99, but does not include a copy of the game in either digital of physical form.

As I suspect most people picking up a Metroid-themed 3DS XL would also want the game, the cost of both together should be $239.98. But that’s not the end of your spending if you want all the content associated with Metroid: Samus Returns. As detailed last month, unlocking everything in the game requires four Amiibos for a total cost of $129.
Limited stock of this 3DS XL will be offered by retailers across North America, Europe, and Japan next month. Therefore, just like with the NES Classic, expect it to be very difficult to get one, closely followed by lots of them appearing on eBay with silly prices attached.
While the design of the Samus 3DS is nice, it’s not nice enough to warrant spending a premium to secure one. Instead, pick up the very capable New 2DS XL, a copy of the game, and save any remaining cash you have for one of the many other fantastic games available for the handheld.
