New-gen Volvo S60: What we know so far

–    The Volvo S60 sedan will enter into its third generation.

–    The carmaker already introduced the V60 station wagon in February.

–    The S60 will move to SPA platform and will use the new family styling set down by the S90.

Volvo is all set to reveal the new-generation S60 sedan today. The Scandinavian carmaker has teased the S60 on a couple of occasions already. Since it will adopt the same styling as the rest of the Volvo family, we pretty much know how it will look like. Here we also have a digital rendering of the sedan’s rear three-quarter view. Read on to find out everything we know so far about the upcoming new-gen S60.

The S60 will adopt Volvo’s new versatile Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform. Based on Volvo’s design philosophy, the new S60 will sport a similar grille and the characteristic headlamps as seen on other Volvo’s these days. The sedan will look like a scaled down S90 and carry all other design elements as seen on its estate brethren, the V60. As can be seen in the teasers, the S60 will get Thor’s Hammer headlamps which edge-out to the grille just like in the V60. The masculine bumpers are hard to miss especially while it is riding on all-black wheels.

On the inside, we expect the same recognisable cabin with quality fit and finish and premium materials as befits a Volvo. The nine-inch touchscreen infotainment screen flanked by vertical air-con vents will dominate the dashboard while the functional cabin will be loaded with all the bells and whistles expected from the mid-size executive sedan. The safety features will be the best in class with no less than five stars in NCAP rating when it arrives.

In the teaser video, the sedan had the new Polestar logo on its grille. We now know, this will be the first vehicle from Volvo to get ‘Polestar Engineered’ performance package in terms of hybrid technology. The Polestar performance package will be offered for the T8 twin-engine powertrain. The performance ECU will offer more horsepower and torque than the standard 400bhp setup. The performance upgrades also include lightweight wheels, larger Brembo brakes and adjustable suspension setup from Ohlins. The cosmetic updates would include yellow paint scheme which will replace the Polestar blue which was the performance arm’s official colour.

Volvo will surely bring the S60 to India to capitalise on the growing demand for the brand thanks to the S90. It will rival German executive sedans like the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and Audi A4 as well as the Jaguar XE. However, it will arrive sometime next year first as a CBU and then later as a CKD, if Volvo sees sufficient demand to assemble it locally.
