In short: HyperX today announced the launch of its latest gaming headset, the HyperX Cloud MIX. This is a headset the company is positioning as an all-in-one solution which will not only suit gamers for home, but also on-the-go usage, as the new Cloud MIX is the company’s first gaming headset to come equipped with Bluetooth. HyperX has confirmed the new Cloud MIX headset is priced at $199.99 in the US and is exclusively available to buy through Best Buy.
Background: HyperX is the gaming division of Kingston Technology Company Inc. and already offers a number of products specifically aimed at gamers, including keyboard, mice, SD cards, and headsets. In particular the headsets are ones which look to ensure a heightened level of quality and comfort which although beneficial to any user will prove suitable for gamers who tend to wear during longer gaming sessions. Previously, and as a means to ensure a quality listening experience the company’s headsets have focused on a wired approach, and the Cloud MIX is actually no different in this respect. As it can be used in a traditional wired fashion with the option to make use of a connected boom microphone — compatible with both TeamSpeak and Discord — for game chatting. However, with the addition of Bluetooth (version 4.2), HyperX is also now offering gamers the option to detach the headphones at the cord level and use the Cloud MIX in the same way a traditional pair of headphones would be used, such as for music playback, video chatting, or simply gaming when on-the-move. Further adding to their dual-purpose nature, the boom microphone can also be detached with users then able to refer to the included built-in mic.
Impact: HyperX is essentially looking to translate its unique listening experience and build quality to the outside world, with a pair of hybrid headphones that while designed for high-end gamers, can be customized for use depending on the situation. At home they will offer a similar quality to the company’s Cloud 2 and Cloud Alpha headsets and will be suitable for use with gaming consoles or PCs, while away from home the mic and 3.5mm cable can be dropped in favor of portability. Regardless of where and how used, the same 40mm drivers and Hi-Res Audio support will be on offer, and when used in Bluetooth mode, the headphones are rated to offer up to 20 hours of usage before a charge is required.
