According to a press release sent out Wednesday by Haxtun Police Department, on Aug. 13, after a joint investigation and operation by the Haxtun Police Department and the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office, Randy Albert Meredith, 27, of Fleming, was contacted after he agreed to meet with an underage 14-year-old female with plans on engaging in a sexual encounter. He was taken into custody without incident.
Meredith is charged with the following charges: Enticement of a child, internet luring of a child and attempted sex assault on a child. He will be held without bond until advised by a judge.
According to Superintendent Dr. Jan DeLay, Meredith was hired by the district as a janitor this summer. Upon learning of the allegations, the district terminated his employment.
During his time in the district, DeLay said he primarily worked at Hagen, mostly in the administration offices, not where students are located. He was never around any students other than the Summer Club participants when he would clean classrooms, during which time Summer Club staff was present, and those occasions were rare, as classrooms are typically cleaned after students leave for the day
Anyone with a concern should contact Georgia Sanders at 970-522-0432. According to DeLay, Sanders was in the process Wednesday of making personal phone calls to the parents of all students in the Summer Club program to alert them of the situation.
Meredith is scheduled to be in Phillips County Court on Tuesday, Aug. 20.
