- Google reveals new Pixel 3 smartphone and larger Pixel 3 XL
- Search giant also reveals new smart screen, the Google Home Hub
- The Home Hub adds a screen to its smart speaker to rival Amazon’s Echo Show
- Google also launches Pixel Slate, a new high-end tablet
Google has revealed its latest smartphones, the Google Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL, the premium Android smartphones it hopes will convince Apple fans to ditch the iPhone XS.
The Pixel 3 and a larger Pixel 3 XL were unveiled at an event in New York today, alongside a host of other hardware that will add to Google’s smart home offering.
This includes a new smart video speaker, the Home Hub, that will compete with Amazon’s own Echo Show device and the Facebook Portal home camera, which was revealed on Monday. The firm is also launched a new tablet computer – the Pixel Slate.
The main attraction, however, is Google’s smartphone. The third in its line of high-end smartphones, the Google Pixel has previously impressed reviewers with its camera quality.
It is expected to come with Android 9 Pie, the latest Android software system. The new Pixel phones are also expected to follow the trend of expanding the phone screen nearly to the edges of the device.
Google launched its line of high-end phones two years ago to better compete against Apple, Samsung and other device makers. That includes many that rely on free software and apps such as the free Android operating system, which powers most of the world’s mobile devices, as well as Google’s search engine, Google Maps and YouTube.
