Kent County health leaders give coronavirus prevention reminders to ‘essential’ workers – mlive.com

03/27/2020 by RSS POST

KENT COUNTY, MI — Kent County Health leaders are offering health recommendations to “essential” workers and others still out in the community after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s stay-at-home order due to the coronavirus.

Kent County Health Director Adam London issued the recommendations Thursday, March 26.

Michigan coronavirus numbers now at 2,856 cases, doubling in three days

They are as follows:

· People with fever of 100.4 degrees or greater and coughing unrelated to a chronic lung condition need to stay home until they are free of fever – without the aid of a fever-suppressant – for at least 72 hours and at least 7 days have passed since the symptoms began.

· Employers providing critical services exempt from the governor’s order should take reasonable measures to space patrons and employees at least 6 feet apart, disinfect common touch points, and require ill employees to stay home.

· Persons knowingly exposed with close contact to an individual positively diagnosed with COVID-19 shall quarantine themselves at home for a period of 14 days since the date of last contact with the ill person.

· People should avoid public playground equipment and other physical features that promote common touch point experiences. We strongly recommend that owners and operators of public playground equipment place signs or other notices discouraging use of the equipment. If possible, we recommend closing public access to such equipment.

Coronavirus symptoms include fever, cough and shortness of breath. Many infected people exhibit mild symptoms and don’t necessarily need to be tested or treated in-person, as there’s currently no known vaccine or cure for the disease.

CORONAVIRUS PREVENTION TIPS

In addition to washing hands regularly and not touching your face, officials recommend practicing social distancing, assuming anyone may be carrying the virus. Health officials say you should be staying at least 6 feet away from others and working from home, if possible. Carry hand sanitizer with you, and use disinfecting wipes or disinfecting spray cleaners on frequently-touched surfaces in your home ( door handles, faucets, countertops ) and when you go into places like stores.
