As flu season comes to an end and allergy season starts to heat up, there may be concerns about symptoms that mimic the new coronavirus COVID-19.
Amid confirmation of the COVID-19 virus in Caddo Parish, many scheduled events in the area are cancelling or postponing events.
Here is a list of events that are canceled or postponed.
R.W. Norton Art Gallery
R.W. Norton Art Gallery will be closed to the public to lower the risk of spreading COVID-19. Norton Art Gallery will be closed from Saturday, March 14 to Sunday, April 19. The announcement comes within 48 hours of the museum announcing the cancellation of community events, including its annual BLOOM! Festival, which was scheduled for March 28. Norton Gardens, which stretches behind the museum, will remain open to the public under regular operating hours, from sunrise to sunset. ‘Party Like It’s the Roaring 20s – Charleston the Night Away’
The Shreveport Symphony Gala “Party Like It’s the Roaring 20s – Charleston the Night Away” scheduled for March 12 is canceled amid the announcement of the spread of the COVID-19 , according to Gala Committee official Anne Wilson. There is no word on whether the $125 gala a person will be rescheduled, said Wilson. The fund raiser was scheduled for 6 p.m. at Horseshoe Riverdome.

Shreve Memorial Library
Shreve Memorial Library is suspending several services including programs, outreach events, and mobile library service. Effective Friday, March 13, all library programs will be canceled until further notice. This includes story times, craft programs, movie screenings, workshops, classes, book signings, and after school programs. In addition, all use of the libraries’ meeting rooms have been canceled. Mobile library service will also be suspended until further notice. Patrons will still be able to visit and use the libraries to check out materials, use computers, and study for homework assignments. In addition, patrons are encouraged to utilize Shreve Memorial Library’s e-Branch to access services such as Hoopla, Overdrive, Flipster and Libby to download audiobooks, ebooks, magazines and videos and to stream music. Library cardholders can also access the Louisiana State Library Database through the e-Branch for access to Homework Louisiana, Pronunciator, and other school, career, and research databases. Shreveport Medical Society Alliance’s “Doctors’ Day” Celebration/Brunch scheduled for March 15 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at East Ridge Country Club has been canceled. he day celebrates men and women who have been doctors 50 years. There are 10 this year. Doctors’ Day Chairwoman Anita White said the event will be rescheduled.

Shreveport Regional Arts Council – Critical Mass 8
The Shreveport Regional Arts Council has announced the Critical Mass 8 events to begin on Thursday will be closed to the public due to the recent local developments of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Critical Mass 8 Performance Showcase, scheduled for 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, instead will be a private event for the critics-only. The showcase will be live-streamed on Facebook at facebook.com/Shrevearts. The Critical Mass 8 Visual and Literary exhibition opening, scheduled for 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 13, will be closed to the public. The announcement of the Critic’s Choice awards recipients will be live-streamed at facebook.com/Shrevearts.
