**Lesson 1:** Given the following decimals:

8.97; 26,375; 103,036; 0.504; 115,032

a. State the integer and decimal parts of each number

b. Write down how to read each given number

**Solution**

a.

The decimal number 8.97 has an integer part of 8, a decimal part of 97

The decimal number 26,375 has an integer part of 26, a decimal part of 375

The decimal number 103,036 has an integer part of 103, a decimal part of 036

The decimal number 0.504 has an integer part of 0, a decimal part of 504

The decimal number 115,032 has an integer part of 115, a decimal part of 032

b.

8.97: Eight point ninety-seven

26.375: Twenty-six point three hundred and seventy-five

103,036: One hundred and three points zero hundred and thirty-six

0.504: No point five hundred and four

115,032: One hundred and fifteen points zero hundred and thirty-two.

**Lesson 2: **Write decimals

– Six units, seven tenths

– Thirty-five units, three tenths, six percent

– Seventy units, seven tenths, seven hundredths, seven thousandths

– Three thousand zero hundred and two units, five percent

– No units, three thousandths

**Solution**

– Six units, seven tenths: 6.7

– Thirty-five units, three tenths, six percent: 35.36

– Seventy units, seven tenths, seven percents, seven thousandths: 70,777

– Three thousand zero hundred and two units, five percent: 3002.05

– Zero units, three thousandths: 0.003

**Lesson 3:** For decimal: 0.8855

a. Read the given decimal

b. Move the comma to the right two digits to read the new decimal number

c. Move the comma to the right three digits and then read the new decimal number.

**Solution**

a. Decimal 0.8855 reads as: Zero point eight thousand eight hundred and fifty five

b. Move the comma to the right two digits, 88, 55 reads: Eighty-eight points fifty-five

c. Moving the three digits to the right is read by the number 885.5: Eight hundred and eighty-five point five
