Practice comparing two decimals

### 1.1. Solving exercises in the textbook Practice page 43

**Lesson 1:**

Put >, <, = in the dot:

84.2…84.19 47.5…47.50

6,843…6.85 90.6…89.6

**Solution guide:**

84.2 > 84.19 47.5 = 47.50

6.843 < 6.85 90.6 > 89.6

Lesson 2:

Write the following numbers in order from smallest to largest:

5.7; 6.02; 4.23; 4.32; 5.3

*Solution guide:*

Comparing the given numbers, we have: 4.23 < 4.32 < 5.3 < 5.7 < 6.02.

So the numbers arranged in order from smallest to largest are: 4.23 ; 4.32 ; 5.3 ; 5.7 ; 6.02.

Lesson 3:

Find the digit x, know: 9.7×8 < 9,718.

*Solution guide:*

The two numbers 9.7×8 and 9.718 have the same integer part 9 and the tenth place as 7.

Again: 9.7×8 < 9,718.

Therefore: x < 1, deduce x = 0

Retry: 9,708 < 9,718.

So x = 0.

Lesson 4:

Find the natural number x, knowing:

a) 0.9 < x < 1.2

b) 64.97 < x < 65.14

*Solution guide:*

a) 0.9 < x < 1.2

x = 1

b) 64.97 < x < 65.14

x = 65

### 1.2. Solving exercises in textbooks General practice page 43

Lesson 1:

Read the following decimals:

a) 7.5; 28,416; 201.05; 0.187

b) 36.2; 9,001; 84,302; 0.010.

*Solution guide:*

a) 7.5 reads as seven point five.

28,416 read as twenty-eight point four hundred and sixteen.

201.05 reads as two hundred and one point zero five.

0.187 reads zero point one hundred and eighty-seven.

b) 36.2 reads as thirty-six point two.

9,001 reads as nine points zero zero one.

84,302 reads as eighty-four point three hundred and two.

0.010 reads as zero point zero ten.

Lesson 2:

Write decimals with:

a) Five units, seven tenths;

b) Thirty-two units, eight tenths, five percents;

c) Zero units, one percent;

d) No units, three hundred and four thousandths.

*Solution guide:*

a) 5.7 b) 32.85

c) 0.01 d) 0.304

Lesson 3:

Write the following numbers in order from smallest to largest:

42,538; 41,835; 42,358; 41,538.

*Solution guide:*

Comparing the given numbers, we have: 41,538 < 41,835 < 42,358 < 42,538

So the numbers are arranged in order from smallest to largest: 41,538; 41,835 ; 42,358 ; 42,538.

Lesson 4:

Calculate by the most convenient way:

\(\begin{array}{l}

a)\frac{{36 \times 45}}{{6 \times 5}}\\

b)\frac{{56 \times 63}}{{9 \times 8}}

\end{array}\)

*Solution guide:*

\(\begin{array}{l}

a)\frac{{36 \times 45}}{{6 \times 5}} = \frac{{6 \times 6 \times 5 \times 9}}{{6 \times 5}} = 54\\

b)\frac{{56 \times 63}}{{9 \times 8}} = \frac{{7 \times 8 \times 7 \times 9}}{{9 \times 8}} = 49

\end{array}\)
