Midwestern State University joined other campuses in addressing the coronavirus pandemic, opting to extend spring break until March 24.

MSU Texas released a statement from President Suzanne Shipley outlining the details of the extension as well as plans to transition to online education platforms starting March 25.

The release stated:

Students are encouraged to take all academic materials with them during the break and to stay at home if possible during the period of online instruction. For those who choose to remain on campus during or after spring break, please register with the Office of Residence Life. Students will continue to have access to all services including Moffett Library, campus computer labs, housing, Mesquite Dining Hall, the Student Wellness Center, and Vinson Health Center.

MSU Texas offices will remain open as scheduled during Spring Break week. The University will observe the two-day holiday scheduled on March 19-20.

At this time, there are no known cases of COVID-19 on the MSU Texas campus. This measure is being made out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our community and to mitigate the rapid spread of the disease.

Leadership is currently reviewing scheduled campus events. Information about cancellations and postponements will be determined individually. Please watch your email or the university website for more information.

As previously noted, the situation continues to rapidly evolve, and as such guidelines and plans may also be subject to change to ensure the best for our campus. We are appreciative of your patience and understanding as we work through the changes in this situation. 

We have a diverse campus population made of up of students, faculty and staff from across our region, state, nation, and world. Our top priority is the health and well-being of our students. As leaders in our community, we also have a responsibility to act in such a way that ensures the well-being of all. In taking this step, we hope to lessen the effects of COVID-19 and limit exposure to our vulnerable populations.
