Meadowview Elementary School in Grayslake won the Education, Outreach and Media Award at last week’s Lake County Stormwater Management Commission Honors.
According the commission, Meadowview Elementary is a leader in the community for its focus on environmental and sustainability education. The school strives for excellence in reducing environmental impacts and costs, improving the health and wellness of schools, students and staff, and providing effective, hands-on education, the commission said.
Students have the opportunity to restore the woodlands behind the school; plan waste-free lunches; conduct education campaigns; and reduce their paper waste, among other programs.
