Great teachers, programs matter, not buildings
Re: “Vote for 4 of 5 East Bay school bond, er, tax measures: Antioch: Yes on Measure T” (Editorial, Eastbaytimes.com, Jan. 12):
Measure T does nothing for education. The Antioch School District wants an estimated 35-year bond for Antioch’s newest schools. The taxes to repay this bond are estimated to cost property owners each year $60 per 100,000 of assessed valuation.
The Antioch School District wants to improve the newest schools so they are comparable to those of neighboring school districts. Excellent teachers and programs educate students, not “pretty buildings.”
Using www.greatschools.org, Brentwood’s oldest schools rate better than most of Antioch’s newest schools in education.
Most of Antioch’s new schools’ ratings are unacceptable. Let the Antioch School District know. Vote “no” on Measure T.
