Even as brewers from across the country showed off their boldest and most daring beers during the opening night of the Great American Beer Festival Thursday, they acknowledged that consumers in Colorado and nationwide are looking more than ever for accessible offerings, marking a turn from the push for extremes that marked the industry just five years ago.
Denver’s restaurant scene is booming, with no shortage of good, local eateries to choose from. Not all of them use OpenTable for reservations, but because many of them do, Denver Business Journal consulted the San Francisco-based company for the most-booked restaurants in Denver.
Gattara, the new restaurant at the Warwick Denver Hotel, will specialize in oven-fired pizza.

A new Italian restaurant centered around a Neapolitan-style pizza oven has opened in the Warwick Denver Hotel, replacing the long-running Randolph’s restaurant and bar with a new concept that owners hope will become a neighborhood staple following its official grand opening on Thursday.
Jobs and layoffs
Health care fields, and physicians in particular, continue to dominate the highest-paying jobs in the Denver metro, based on the most recent statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The ranking of the top 25 jobs — in this case, those earning $150,000 or more — is based on BLS’s annual mean wage data for each profession in the 10-county Denver-Aurora-Lakewood metropolitan statistical area, as of May 2018, the most recent data available.

Brown Brothers Harriman plans to lay off 136 employees and close its only Colorado location. The New York City-based investment bank and financial services firm filed a Worker Readjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice with the state of Colorado on Sept. 23, saying it will be permanently closing its office at 6801 S. Tucson Way in Centennial.
A roundup of the largest City of Denver salaries includes several leaders of the city’s most prominent agencies, including the airport, fire and police departments, and city and district attorney’s offices. These 35 salaries represent the top 0.5% among the city’s nearly 8,000 salaried employees, for whom the median annual compensation is $88,060. One leader who does not appear among these top-paid employees is Mayor Michael Hancock, whose yearly compensation of $175,520 ranks 98th among salaried city employees.

A stunning Cherry Hills Village mansion will soon hit the market with an asking price of $9,875,000. A Boston firm that scooped up a prime piece of downtown Denver real estate where an 81-story skyscraper was once proposed has plans to tackle two projects in the Central Business District. Harbinger Development in August paid $17.5 million for a 25,000-square-foot parcel of land at 650 17th St. It has since updated its website to include 601 16th St. as a site it’s developing under an option agreement.
A handful of districts dominate the list of the 25 best public high schools in the Denver area for 2020, according to Pittsburgh-based schools and neighborhood website Niche.com. Cherry Creek School District, Jefferson County School District No. R-1, Boulder Valley School District and Denver Public Schools dominated the list.
